How do I help my friend deal with a death in her family?

A very good friend of mine found out this morning that her uncle had a heart attack the night before.

He's currently in the hospital, and nobody knows if he's going to be okay.

There's a chance he won't be. If the worst happens, I know she'll come to me.

I've never had to deal with this before... how should I handle it?How do I help my friend deal with a death in her family?
This is a very difficult situation. My mom died a year ago and Im not sure anything that any of my friends could have done for me would have helped. Just be there for her, you don't have to take away the pain because you can't. Listen when she needs you to but don't give out too much advice. No one can tell someone that they know how they feel because they don't and sometimes words just get into the way. Just be her friend and in time she will feel better. if she comes to you you should just listen to what she has to say

hug her

you dont really have to talk

the most important thing she'll probably want..is someone to just listen to her..so she could spill her feelings to.

tell her youll always be there if she needs to talk again

thats pretty much it!
Be prepared to sit and listen. She will be shocked and her family will be as well so you are the person she could turn to. Listening and being there for her.
